Opening Doors

When I was young, my Dad was largely absent from my life . My parents had divorced and my mother moved to a new area and it was difficult for him to visit but at the same time he lost his job . It was the 1960s and he got involved with the Maharishi and Transcendental Meditation movement, which seemed very peculiar to me as he was about ten years older than most of the individuals who were involved with such movements .

He met The Beatles in India in which he had no interest, but was very exciting for me and got into a fight with one of The Beach Boys over a girl on a beach in India . He had no idea which one it was but it is assumed to be Mike Love . After his initial training, he started teaching meditation but after a few years he became very disillusioned and left, and eventually joined an Evangelical Christian church .

Unfortunately he suffered ill health and eventually died off cancer in his early 60s . From my perspective at the time, his life appeared wasted . To me success meant achievement in work and a life could be viewed as worthwhile only by what you left behind in material terms . However, as I have grown older my life has taken a similar turn and I am following the well worn spiritual path and I am beginning to see the point .

Even from a spiritual perspective though it still seemed pointless . He had definitely not reached any great heights in his spiritual search and I wondered whether it was worth all the pain and aggravation, he had gone through . So what was the point ?

For me, the reason for his spiritual journey, and others in the 1960s and later, was to open doors for others to follow . When his life is seen from the perspective that we are One it makes sense . From an individual point of view it may seem he made relatively little progress but through the Universal telescope he and others like him helped greatly and knocked down many barriers which we have walked through .

Each generation opens more doors and at present we are walking down a long hallway opening one door after another, even though this may not be apparent from the state of the world and when we leave the world, others will open more doors . Every action is important but the most important is giving . When we give without any thought of reward, we are coming from our true nature and each time this happens the whole world changes and even the smallest gesture makes a difference .

At present the old world is collapsing around us but this is necessary for the new one to be created . Just keep opening the doors and eventually we will come to the final door .

All There Is

When one watches the TV news or reads newspapers, you are bombarded with bad news . A common trait is an attempt to blame someone for the incidents . Greedy bankers, rapists, paedophiles and warmongers are some of the guilty we like to blame . They did it, its all their fault we say to ourselves .

Yet there is one bit of information which we have chosen not to remember and it is the people who are blamed, are in fact you and me . At the very basic level, we are all the same . This Self has been described as All There Is, Universal Consciousness or Atman and is literally All There Is, for nothing else exists outside it . It is what we all are .

We are in fact this Self living a bewildering number of experiences . You may not like Jews, Blacks, Whites etc or hate gay people . It does not matter who you hate because they are your Self . Your worse enemy is literally your Self and and any form of hatred is Self hatred .

You are committing the rapes and child abuse and at the same time, you are the victim and so am I . You may envy someone else’s lifestyle but you are experiencing it and so am I .

We are All There Is . We/You/I are the source of everything in our consciousness . We are Adolf Hitler and Osama bin Laden and at the same time Jesus and Mohammed . You are Everything and Everything is you !

The Surrey Puma

Jaguar

One summer night, about twenty years ago, I was walking down a small lane in Surrey, England at eight o’clock in the evening . It was just becoming night and as I walked down further, I became aware of something lying down in the lane about a hundred yards away . I carried on walking and just before I reached it, the figure suddenly rose up and stared at me in fright .

The figure that was looking at me was a big black cat . I stared at it and it stared back . To be honest I don’t know who was more frightened, the animal or me but luckily it wasn’t prepared to find out whether I was friend or foe and raced away as fast as it could go . It was the most beautiful animal I have ever seen .

There had been various sightings of black cats in England for some time, such as The Beast of Bodmin Moor and The Surrey Puma but the media had decided that these sightings were seen by deluded individuals, either drunk or mad . When I told my friends, I was predictably laughed at and derided but fortunately a few days later, someone else saw the animal in her back garden .

When I look back at this incident, what strikes me was the immediate reaction of derision . This came from the media who told everyone these animals weren’t real and so buying into the group consensus, everyone believed what they were told . What surprises me is that the sighting of large black cats in England would not really be that remarkable if you consider some of the weird things that happen in this world . Since my close encounter, there have been so many sightings that it is grudgingly accepted large black cats exist in England .

My friends had bought in to the media explanation and so their beliefs were created by others even though they had no personal experience or any real reason to doubt me . How many of our beliefs are our own ? Our beliefs come from within us but we very rarely question them and wonder why do I believe this . For many years it was believed the Sun circled the Earth and that the World was flat and it took many years for this group consensus to be changed and it was only when the science became so overwhelming, people changed their minds .

We either inherit or absorb other people’s beliefs and we very rarely challenge this belief system . From a spiritual perspective, we are told to believe that we die when our bodies cease to be . We are told we are guilty and sinful and we are also ordered how to live our lives by the Law who decides what is right and wrong .

Very few people question their own belief system but I would suggest everyone should examine it and decide whether their beliefs are their own or someone else’s . More people should ask themselves whether they know if their beliefs are genuine, how do they know they are true and is it what they really think, or the opinions of others ?  Is it your Mind or does it belong to someone else ?

The Human Firewall

A Firewall is a defence mechanism used in computers . The intention is to keep out malware and viruses which may infect the computer . Cyber security has been in the news lately with governments finding their IT systems under attack from unknown sources .

A large industry has grown up in Internet Security protecting us from these viruses and they are continually having to evolve to deal with the threat from hackers .

We have our  own inbuilt firewall which is vastly more sophisticated than any computer firewall but unlike the computer security, this firewall does not help us, for deep down within our psyche we do not want to join with our Self .

This defence takes many forms such as addictions and by our belief system . We believe money and death can save us from our spiritual Self and the firewall is always on guard to protect us . We do not need protecting from our Self but even though consciously we may see the error in the Mind, this inner computer has taken over and continually fights against the inevitable .

At present, our firewall sees itself under attack from Spirit, for want of a better phrase and our defences are being slowly dismantled  . Our firewall does not help us and we can consciously help the process by letting it be and not fighting, as much as we can .

The stronger the resistance, the more painful it will be .
