The Mirror

Who is the fairest of them all ?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate . Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure . It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us – Marianne Williamson .

Projection is the theory which proposes that a personality trait you are unwilling to accept in yourself, is seen in someone else . This tends to be mainly negative projections of guilt, fear and self hate . You see other people’s faults all too clearly but are unable to see them in yourself . You may describe someone else as scum, lazy or disgusting but this is really your own feelings of self loathing projected outwards . Everybody who comes into your life is a reflection of yourself .

Projection normally refers to our negative traits but it also mirrors your positive attributes . You may see someone else’s beauty, intelligence or patience and wish you were like them but it is only a reflection and you can be sure that you have these virtues . Everything in the world is perfect but due to our guilt filled Mind, we view the world as flawed and you/I are perfect as well . There is nothing wrong with you at all . There are no parts of you which have to be improved or changed . Sometimes this projection can be seen when you fall in love and can find no fault in your partner . This is just a mirror of you and it is your own perfection reflecting back at you .

We are afraid of our beauty and innocence and hide it away as we share the same qualities as God and are made in ‘ his image ‘ . In Snow White, the wicked Queen looked in the Mirror and asked who is the fairest of them all . The real answer is the Queen was, but so was everyone else as well . Find your own beauty and you will find it in others as well .

  1. During my years in psychology, I was surprised to see that those I disliked most have the most similar “negative” traits with me.

It’s amazing to know that it also applies to positive attributes.

    Thanks for reminding 🙂

    1. Rizal – I know what you mean . It’s not nice when you encounter your own guilt, fear and anger etc but then spend too much time trying to improve yourself .
